Your Power Bill Went Up. Trump’s Data Center Plan Didn’t Stop It.

The midterms are racing toward us.

So are bigger power bills.

Trump’s team rolled out a “ratepayer protection pledge” to say your electric costs won’t spike with the AI server boom. Reuters says it’s backed by governors, utilities, and big data center builders.

Sounds great.

Reality check: in the nation’s largest power region, watchdogs tie a 75.5% jump in power costs to data centers, and Maryland just got a $2 billion grid upgrade tab to serve them, The Hill reports.

They had one job.

Keep the grid stable and your bill fair.

Instead, communities are pushing back over electricity costs, water strain, and noise. Some places even hit pause — Seattle and New York put temporary bans on new data centers, The Hill notes.

Paper. Not policy.

Critics say the pledge isn’t enforceable. The administration is still telling grid operators to fast-track these projects, even as local bills rise and upgrades pile up.

It doesn’t have to be like this. Oregon made big power users pay more. Portland General Electric raised data center rates by 30% and cut home rates by 1.3%, according to The Hill.

That’s competence. Make growth pay its own way.

But the Trump administration chose speed and headlines over hard guardrails. They promised protection. PJM’s region saw costs soar anyway.

You do not have to be a Democrat.

You just have to want leaders who’ll protect your grid before signing photo-op pledges.

Fire the people who broke the basics.

Vote like constitutional repair depends on it.
