Rent Up. Ownership Locked.
Your rent went up again. The starter house you eyed now costs about $440,600 on average. The down payment keeps drifting away.
This isn’t bad luck. It’s a housing squeeze that rewards owners and punishes renters — and Republican leaders keep choosing the winners over your family.
Here’s the box you’re in: Home prices jumped more than 50% in six years. Mortgage rates just hit a one-year high. And 77% of listings are priced out of reach for middle-income buyers. Rents rose faster than pay, leaving nearly half of renters spending over a third of their income just to keep a roof. That widens the wealth gap between owners and renters. Owners build equity every month. Renters fall behind, even when they do everything right. Experts warn a young middle class faces a future with little or no wealth if locked out of owning. A shortage of smaller, starter homes is doing this. It traps people.
This is not normal or inevitable.
If leaders were serious, they’d side with families, not the already-haves. They’d push to build more homes you can actually buy and cut costs for renters. Instead, Republican power protects the status quo while your bill explodes.
You don’t have to be a Democrat. You just have to stop rewarding this. In 2026, pull the only lever that can change it: remove Republican power.
- Send this to one moderate voter who still thinks this is normal politics.
- Ask a homeowner friend to back building more starter homes.
- Vote in 2026 to remove Republican power over housing.
