Trump Moves to Limit Mail-In Ballots

This week, the Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to let new limits on mail-in ballots take effect before the midterms. A dozen Republican-led states, spearheaded by Missouri, backed this request.

In contrast, a Massachusetts judge blocked key parts after 23 states and D.C. warned of chaos if rules change now. The Supreme Court has given Democratic states until Aug. 3 to respond.

The plan: build a federal list of citizens and instruct the Postal Service to send ballots only to names on that list. Add tracking barcodes on envelopes and threaten funding for noncompliance.

On paper, it sounds tidy. In real life, it risks knocking eligible mail voters off the rolls when it matters most.

The stated reason is noncitizen voting, which is rare. Yet, Trump allies are reviving the SAVE Act to force documentary proof of citizenship to register and add new voter ID rules.

House leaders tried to pair it with a State Department funding bill to jam it forward. The Senate hasn’t passed it.

This is about picking who gets a voice.

Existing law already bars noncitizens from voting in federal elections. Piling on new documents, new databases, and new hoops means some citizens will get shut out. Right before November.

You do not have to be a Democrat to see the risk. You just have to want every eligible ballot counted.

Reject this bait-and-switch. Fire the people who keep trying to narrow your vote. In 2026, choose fairness over fear. Vote like constitutional repair depends on it.
