DeSantis’ new Florida map rigs the lines. Voters pay the price.

Florida approved new district lines that could let Republicans flip up to four U.S. House seats.

On April 29, Florida’s GOP-led Legislature advanced Gov. Ron DeSantis’ map that boosts Republican chances in up to four districts. The Senate passed it 21-17, and four Republicans voted no. Republicans admitted the map relied on partisan data, which the voter-approved Fair Districts rules forbid. Democrats and some Republicans said it breaks those rules that ban drawing lines to help a party or to weaken Black and other minority voters’ power. DeSantis says those state rules can be set aside because they clash with the U.S. Constitution’s equal protection rule. Lawsuits are expected. In 2025, Common Cause’s state group challenged Florida’s map, and the state Supreme Court let it stay in place. Republicans already cut up a mostly blue South Florida district to improve their odds, forcing Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz into a redrawn battleground. Neighborhoods were split. Voters were moved to new districts. Your vote should pick the leaders, not the map. If politicians get to choose their voters, your voice shrinks. You do not need to be a Democrat to oppose this. Fair rules protect everyone, and plenty of center-right neighbors want real competition.

Stop this in 2026.

  • Ask a center-right friend if they’re okay with leaders drawing their own voters
