Judge ends Trump’s 75‑country visa freeze. Blanket bans aren’t border security.
Visa processing for people from 75 countries was paused with no end date, including Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, and Somalia. A federal judge in New York ruled the pause violated anti-discrimination rules and ordered the government to restart processing. This was one of the Trump administration’s latest moves to restrict legal immigration for people it labeled “likely to be a public charge.” Families were kept apart. Work and study plans were put on hold. You can want strong borders and still say this crossed a line.
The policy applied a blanket label to whole nations and blocked workers, students, and relatives who followed the rules.
The same pattern showed up beyond visas. After Abdul El-Sayed won the Senate primary in Michigan, Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville blasted him online as a “TERRORIST” and “RADICAL ISLAMIST” because of his faith. Immigration officers were reassigned to screen South African refugees and to search for “unlawful” voters.
America can protect its borders and still judge people one by one. Rules should be clear and fair. When leaders use blanket bans, families and employers pay the price.
