Supreme Court blocks Trump’s mail ballot rules. Voters avoid chaos.

On Monday, the Supreme Court blocked the Trump administration from imposing new limits on mail ballots for the midterms.

The order keeps current rules in place and stops late changes that election officials said they could not carry out with weeks to go.

The plan required ballot envelopes with barcodes and state lists of who can get a mail ballot sent to the federal government. If states refused, the U.S. Postal Service would not deliver their ballots, and it would have to sign off on ballots in thousands of local districts.

One-third of voters used mail ballots in 2024. That includes seniors, rural voters, people with disabilities, and vote-by-mail states like Colorado and Utah.

They tried to block ballots.

A federal whistleblower warned the rushed system could disrupt ballot delivery and keep people from having their votes counted. States had already begun sending ballots. Local administrators in red and blue states said the late switch was unworkable and would confuse people.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh said the changes came too late for this election and would be arbitrary. Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented.

Trump issued these rules by executive order, claiming fraud in mail voting without evidence. Studies find such cases are rare.

After the ruling, Trump blasted the justices he picked and praised the two who dissented. He said the others had been bullied by the left.

The plan would have made it harder for millions to vote by mail, right before ballots go out.

You do not have to be a Democrat to reject this. If you want steady rules and every valid vote counted, vote for candidates who protect mail voting and stop the chaos. Split your ticket if you want. Stop the people who keep trying to take your vote.

Clear rules set early keep elections calm and fair for everyone.
