Supreme Court blocks Missouri’s Trump-backed map for the third time

On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court blocked Missouri’s new congressional map again. It was the third time in a month.

The 2025 map cut parts of Kansas City out of the 5th District and extended it into rural Republican areas. Trump backed it and Republican lawmakers pushed it.

The justices said late changes would cause “electoral chaos.” Ballots using the 2022 map are already printed and mailed, and absentee and military voting have begun. Voters will use the same districts Missouri used in 2022 and 2024.

Blocked. Three times.

Why this matters to you: when politicians split a city across districts, your voice shrinks. The plan targeted Kansas City’s seat and aimed to help Republicans try for a seventh House seat.

This wasn’t a one-off. It was a push to lock in power, even if it made voting more confusing and split communities during the election.

Missourians pushed back. A citizen group, People Not Politicians, gathered signatures for a statewide vote on the map. The Missouri Supreme Court said the referendum was legal and that the new map could not take effect unless voters approved it. The Secretary of State tried to block that petition and lost. There are at least 16 lawsuits tied to this fight.

Trump attacked the courts after each ruling. Republican leaders complained that the general election would use a different map than the primary. The U.S. Supreme Court said switching back to the 2025 map now was “practically impossible” and would sow chaos.

The mapmakers moved fast, then fought in court when challenged. This does not fix roads, make streets safer, or lower costs. The goal is to keep power, even if voters are left confused.

You do not need to be a liberal to want honest lines and one clear set of rules. If you are tired of the games, the fix is simple.

Take away the power to do this in 2026.

  • Share this with someone who hasn’t connected how rigged lines shrink their town’s voice.
  • Ask your local election office which map is in use and pass that info to neighbors so no one is misled.
  • Vote in 2026 to replace the officials who tried to force this map through.
  • Check your voter registration at Vote.gov

Countdown
