Alito to “strategically” Quit to Hold the Right Wing Court?
You were promised fair courts. You got a political shield.
Here’s the turn: there’s open talk of a “strategic” retirement by Justice Samuel Alito. If that happens, it wouldn’t be about public service. It would be about locking the Supreme Court into one ideology for decades (source: reporting on strategic Alito retirement).
This is not abstract. It hits your vote, your kid’s future, your basic rights. As Balls & Strikes reports, Trump’s second-term judges are 90 percent white and nearly three-quarters men, many refusing to even say he lost 2020—yet they now hold lifetime power in our courts. The Eighth and Tenth Circuits have still never had a judge who is a woman of color. In Alabama’s Northern District, six of seven judges are Trump appointees; one of his picks helped defend a congressional map a federal court said violates the Constitution. The Supreme Court has already gutted key parts of the Voting Rights Act, which could mean fewer Black voices in Congress, and ending affirmative action in 2023 has driven Black enrollment down at top schools. The New York Times found Trump’s “superstar” appellate judges voted 133 to 12 in his favor. Courts are being rigged.
You do not have to be a Democrat. But you don’t have to accept a captured Court, either. If we hand Republicans more power in 2026, they will finish this project and your voice will shrink with every new case.
