At Minnesota’s Farmfest, Republican candidates praised Trump’s trade tariffs and cuts to Medicaid and Affordable Care Act tax credits. Many farm families rely on these when there’s no employer plan and no margin for error.
Trade fights are tied up in court. Even NPR tracks the legal battles over Trump’s tariffs. Republicans on stage backed them anyway. You’re the one planning a season around that uncertainty.
Here’s the health care hit you can bank on: Republicans passed a law reducing funding and tightening rules. The Congressional Budget Office says about 10 million fewer people will have insurance by 2034. Federal data shows around 3 million fewer people signed up on the exchanges this year.
This raises your bill.
Fewer people insured means more unpaid care at rural hospitals, higher premiums for everyone left in the pool, and bigger deductibles when your kid breaks a wrist or you need a scan.
Even at Farmfest, it was said out loud: “So many of our farmers and ranchers are on the individual marketplace.” Cut the Affordable Care Act tax credits, and those premiums jump. There’s no mystery about who eats that.
