This spring and summer, President Trump canceled 12 offshore wind leases. Last year, he halted new permits and issued a stop-work order that left crews home instead of on the water.

Thousands of trained workers were sidelined. They raced for the few jobs left or went back to old work. Stop-work orders stranded crews. One Boston pile driver packed for five weeks offshore on New York’s Empire Wind. Then the order hit, and he was stuck at home. In his first eight weeks at sea, he earned more than he had saved in five years. Then it stopped. A millwrights union spent $10,000 to $20,000 per member on offshore wind training. That training now sits idle. Towns that were promised port and factory work lost it overnight. Rent and groceries do not wait when steady offshore work disappears.
The White House says the rollback lowers costs and builds energy jobs. Former New Jersey economic development leaders say they have never seen elected officials celebrate killing jobs. Families feel the gap in their paychecks.
And last week, Trump renewed a push to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, NPR reported.
