Trump move ends Medicaid coverage for trans kids’ care. Families get the bill.
Medicaid will stop paying for transition surgeries, puberty blockers, and hormone treatment for children. Trump officials announced it Tuesday, the Washington Post reported. Families on Medicaid will lose coverage for that care. That means new out-of-pocket bills for doctor visits, prescriptions, and trips to clinics. Insurance will not pay. Parents will get the bills.

The Post also reports this is part of a wider push to restrict transgender medical care before the midterms. Ending Medicaid payment for surgery, blockers, and hormones will not erase the need for care. It shifts costs to parents who already struggle to pay bills. Many cannot switch to a private plan or pay cash. Other reports say some current hormone treatment can stay covered for six months after the rule takes effect in October 2026. That delay does not change who pays when coverage ends.
Human rights groups have sued the same administration over sanctions on the International Criminal Court. They call those sanctions illegal. These fights do not cut any family’s medical bill. You do not have to agree on every treatment to see the effect. Ending coverage makes families pay more.
