They tried to change your ballot rules after ballots went out

More than 130,000 absentee ballots were already on the way to Wisconsin voters when Trump moved to change who could get a mail ballot. That wastes your time and your town’s money.

The Supreme Court stopped his mail-ballot limits for now. States can keep the process they have used for years. Nearly one-third of the country votes by mail.

Trump’s order would have built a federal voter list and given the U.S. Postal Service a say in who could vote by mail. Wisconsin officials said a last-minute switch weeks before the midterms would be unworkable. Clerks had deadlines and ballots already in the mail. Flip the rules then, and people get confused, plans break, and local offices scramble. That means lost hours for workers who planned to vote from home and higher admin costs for your community to redo work and answer a flood of questions.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Justice has filed 31 lawsuits to force states, including Wisconsin, to turn over unredacted voter lists. It also sent letters to 29 states and D.C. telling them to keep election records longer than federal law requires and warning officials they are under investigation. A Wisconsin election law expert says these federal messages risk misleading people and weakening faith in the process.

We just reported how Missouri Republicans tried to redraw maps to lock in power. Same aim here. Change the rules. Confuse voters. Keep power. You pay for the mess.

Confusion costs you.

You do not have to switch teams to reject this. Keep your beliefs, and in 2026 back leaders who run elections clean instead of wrecking them to hang on.

  • Confirm your absentee plan with your local clerk and share the correct info with a neighbor.
  • Tell your state lawmakers to block last-minute voting rule changes that waste local time and money.
  • Vote in 2026 to replace the officials who create election chaos instead of doing the job right.
  • Check your voter registration at Vote.gov

Countdown
