Nuclear Family Month?  The GOP Making It Hard To Just Survive

The state says your family doesn’t count, it costs you: Lawyer fees. Time off work. Insurance fights. That’s the price of this new June “rebrand.

Some Republican governors have swapped out “Pride” with their own June labels, while House Republicans pushed a national “Family Month.”

The message is clear. One of them even posted, “Homosexuality has no place in America. Happy Nuclear Family Month.” The same crew is plotting against an update to parent laws that would help kids by making sure both parents are recognized.

Some on the right claim it would ban the words “mother” and “father.” Um, no.  Here’s what this culture war really does: it makes regular families pay. If the law shrugs at your parentage, you pay hundreds or thousands to adopt the child you already raise. You bring notarized papers to daycare and the ER. You argue with HR to get a spouse on your plan. You miss shifts to fix paperwork a sane system would accept the first time.

Pride isn’t just a parade, it means EVERYBODY IS OK: in the eyes of schools, hospitals, and insurers, EVERYBODY.

Take that away, and confusion turns into bills. While groceries, rent, and premiums squeeze you, these governors and their allies picked a month-name fight and a scare campaign over “mother” and “father” instead of fixing your costs.

If leaders can’t respect your household, don’t expect them to protect your household budget.

Stop the GOP. In 2026, retire the people who make your family second class.

• Ask your governor to keep Pride month recognition and support inclusive parent laws.
