Public power used for private gain
The Democratic National Committee sued to stop the Trump administration from using taxpayer money for ads that promote the president ahead of the midterms. The suit says that breaks laws that bar taxpayer-funded propaganda and spending that Congress did not approve.
Do not shrug this off as one ad buy. The suit describes the government using public tools to help its own campaign.
Public office is not a campaign.

- Trump has traded more stocks than all members of Congress combined, according to an ethics analysis reported by Common Cause, raising conflict-of-interest concerns while he sets policy. (Common Cause/MSN)
- Elon Musk’s America PAC blasted out inaccurate voting texts in Colorado, confusing voters, while reporting nearly $40 million in election spending so far, with more than $31 million aimed at Senate races. Musk has put tens of millions into GOP-aligned groups this cycle. (CNN)
Your tax dollars could be turned into campaign ads. Bad voting info from a billionaire-funded super PAC could trip you up. When a president trades massive amounts of stock, you have to wonder whose interests come first when rules get written.
We reported this week that well-connected people keep getting special breaks while ethics groups work to protect the public. The same thing is now closer to your ballot.
You can be conservative and still say this crosses the line. If you want honest government, the fix is simple.
Government only works when public money and power serve the public.
Use your vote to end the grift.
- Report misleading election messages to your local election office and share your state’s official voting links
- Ask your member of Congress to back a ban on stock trading by sitting presidents and lawmakers
- Tell your local paper or radio station you oppose any taxpayer-funded political ads
- Check your voter registration at Vote.gov
Countdown
