You don’t have to be a Democrat to say: stop messing with our votes

In October, Trump’s Justice Department sued California and demanded counties set aside mail ballots from “likely” noncitizens while early voting was already underway.

You can lean conservative and still call this wrong. The department gave counties two days and sent a thumb drive, with the password on a sticky note. Then it pushed to sift ballots while voting was underway. Los Angeles County refused because it was not secure.

The lawsuit claims California sent about 20,000 ballots to noncitizens and asks officials to set aside those votes based on suspect lists. A Republican election official called it a major escalation because it landed during voting and relied on shaky data. California’s top election office says state law already blocks noncitizen voting and removes ineligible names. In Nevada, a prior list of 185 “likely” noncitizens turned out to be 185 lawful citizens after review.

Real voters get sidelined when the rules shift mid‑election.

This is part of a pattern. Trump’s team tried to pry loose driver’s license numbers and parts of Social Security numbers from states. Courts have rejected them more than two dozen times. They even tried to have the Postal Service withhold ballot delivery in some states until judges stepped in. Now they routed this new case around the department’s own voting rights lawyers and filed it from the deputy attorney general’s office. That sharp change is meant to force quick disruption.

Here is what that means for you: lawful voters can get flagged. Their ballots get set aside, and their vote delayed or denied because someone in Washington used an unverified list. That breeds chaos, not trust.

You don’t have to switch teams to reject efforts to set aside lawful ballots. Pick leaders who set clear rules before voting starts and who count every lawful ballot, without fear or favor.

  • Check your voter registration and mail ballot status with your county today
  • Ask your county clerk how they’re protecting voters from bad purge lists and last‑minute rule changes
  • Share this with a neighbor who thinks noncitizen voting is common and show them the Nevada review
  • Check your voter registration at Vote.gov
