$50 million while working at the Justice Department. Even Trump says it crossed the line.

A $50 million private deal over four years. Reported while she worked at the Justice Department.

Here are the plain facts from the reporting. The New York Times reported that the family of Venezuelan banker Julio Herrera Velutini guaranteed Trump’s former lawyer, Alina Habba Mildon, more than $50 million over four years, $10 million a year plus bonuses.

Reuters reports she signed the contract with the family’s company, Concord Partners, days after it formed in late October 2025 while she was acting U.S. attorney in New Jersey. A court later disqualified her from serving as U.S. attorney. She resigned on Dec. 8. She was appointed a senior adviser to the attorney general the same day. The contract started Jan. 1. On Jan. 15, 2026, Trump pardoned Herrera, according to the Justice Department’s website. Trump called the deal “totally obnoxious and outrageous” and “not acceptable.”

Fifty million dollars while working at the Justice Department.

This is the reported timeline. Denials are on the record. Habba Mildon has said she was never paid for a pardon, never met with anyone about a pardon, and never did any work for a pardon. She also said the arrangement was vetted and disclosed to the Justice Department. A White House official said she had nothing to do with the pardon. The Times did not independently confirm the vetting claim. Reuters reported the Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment. No court finding or ethics ruling has been reported.

A senior Justice Department official lined up a massive private payday from a family tied to a man who then got a presidential pardon. That breaks public trust. When insiders mix public power with private contracts, your family is left wondering if the rules are for everyone or just for the well-connected.

You do not have to change your party to see this is wrong. If you want clean justice and plain lines, stop rewarding the people who let this happen on their watch.

Standards only hold if we enforce them together at the polls in 2026.
