Bankruptcies Are Rising. Trump’s Fix? More Tariffs.
Your budget snaps first. The card maxes. The calls start. More families are walking into bankruptcy court, NPR reports.
Instead of steady relief and clear planning, Trump’s team jammed through another round of global import taxes. Small businesses are back in court because these new tariffs hit parts and products they can’t replace. That’s not strategy. That’s lurching.
Axios reports the administration imposed new 10% to 12.5% tariffs on goods from more than 60 economies, and small firms are suing to stop it. One watch retailer says earlier Trump tariffs cost them over $160,000, with refunds still tied up. When a shop pays more for parts, your price goes up. When costs spike and cash runs thin, hours get cut, hiring freezes, and doors close. NPR also notes more Americans are going bankrupt, and another NPR report says many are now priced out of buying a home as the renter–owner gap widens. This is not competence.
Government is supposed to steady the floor, not kick the legs out. If you’re center-right and want boring, predictable, run-things-right leadership, you have an off-ramp. You do not have to be a Democrat to say: stop the chaos, stop the court losses, stop raising costs on families and Main Street.
