The Trump administration plans to give a no-bid contract to a small Texas firm tied to his own team to represent unaccompanied migrant kids in court, the Washington Post reports.

They first let the longtime provider’s contract expire, throwing about 24,000 children into uncertainty. Then they moved to award the work to Burke Law Group — founded by a former Trump appointee, Marcella Burke — a firm that lists just two immigration and asylum lawyers among 26 employees. All of it, no competition. Your money.

When leaders pick friends over merit, kids don’t get the best help, cases slow down, and taxpayers pay more for worse work. Open bidding protects those children and your wallet. Skipping it protects insiders.

No-bid deals invite corruption.

This isn’t a one-off. Senate Democrats are also pressing a South Korean company to explain a $2 million payment to Trump’s holding company while it was fighting a trade case before his administration — a move they say raises serious concerns about pay-to-play and even bribery. Different case, same pattern: power used to help the well-connected, not the public.

You do not have to be a Democrat to see the rot here. You just have to be tired of being played and paying for it. After all, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
